This 17 night, 18 day trip offers an excellent bird watching experience sighting the tropical lowland birds and the high Himalayan birds of the Tibetan deserts of Gosainkund and Langtang. This is the most popular and rewarding trek in the Himalaya north of Katmandu as you can see species of Tibetan Snowcock and Partridge, Fire-Tailed Myzornis, Blood Pheasant and Satyer Tragopan. Nepal’s famous lowland Royal Chitwan National Park is one of the finest in Asia and a birdwatcher’s paradise.
     
Day One Meet at the airport and drive to Hotel

6: 00 pm Introduction to Nepal and review of trip itinerary

Day Two    
6: 30 am Breakfast at hotel  
7: 00 am Drive to Pati Bhanjyang and the start of the trek at Sundarijal 14km north of Katmandu. The trail steps up along the side of a water pipe, through forests across a reservoir dam and then climbs through more oak forests and cultivation to the Mulkharka and Chaubas Pass. At the top of the Sheopuri Ridge at 2440m on the north side we climb back down to Patibhanjyang. The birds that can be seen on this day are Himalayan Griffon Vulture, Common Hill Partridge, Himalayan Monal, Mountain Scopes Owl, and Little Cuckoo, Fufous-bellied Pied Woodpecker and many more.

Day Three    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am The trail climbs up the ridge to the north through terraced fields to Chipling at 2165m and then across the pass to 2455m. We walk through the forests and climb down to Gul Bhanjyang, then along the ridge through terraced fields and thin forests up to another pass at 2545m and then down to Khutumsang at 2470m. The bird species here include Indian Blue Robin, Blue Capped Rock Thrush, White-Collared and Grey-Winged Black birds, Asian Sooty and Asian Brown Ultramarine and Snowy Fly Catchers, Laughing Thrushes, Tits, and many more.

Day Four

7: 00 am Through coniferous and rhododendron forests the trail goes up north to a ridge at 3030m and then climbs up to Mungen at 3285m. You can see various species of Flycatchers, Thrushes, Tits, Green shrike-babblers and finches.

Day Five    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am Climb up sharply to the top of the Thare Pati ridge and follow along the ridge before climbing down the vertical side of the ridge through a full grown rhododendron forest to Thare Pati 3505m. The bird seen here include Himalayan Griffon Vulture, Besra Upland Buzzard, Little Cuckoo, and Tawny Owl.

Day Six    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am A sharp climb down and then up again just as sharply to Gapte Cave at 3565m. The trail goes through rhododendron forests mixed with some coniferous and deciduous trees and bamboo covered with moss. The bird species here include Blood Pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Himalayan Monal, Eurasian Woodcock, Thrushes, Finches, tits and Short-wings.

Day Seven    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am Going up and down through vertical scrub covered hillside, the trail takes you across a stream then starts the long climb to the Laurebina pass at 4600m. Passing through four lakes the scrub becomes shorter and is replaced by alpine grassland and stony ground, it is an excellent area to see Rose Finches and Grandalas.

Day Eight

7: 00 am An almost level trail goes through the rocky countryside passing lakes and then going up over a small ridge to the long climb down to Chandan Bari. The rhododendron and fir and deciduous forests close to the Chandan Bari are excellent for birds and you can see Common cross-bills, Satyar Tragopan, Lammergeier, Snow Partridge, Altai and Alpine Accenters, Red-billed Choughs and various species of Thrushes.

Day Nine    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am Start the day with a few hours in the forest region of Chandan Bari looking for birds such as Himalayan Griffon Vulture, Black Eagle, Satyar Tragopan, Common Hill Partridge, Ashy Woodpigeon, Scaly-bellied Green Woodpecker, Variegated Laughing-thrushes and many more. After the bird watching take up the trail to climb down through fir, oak and rhododendron forests across the Trisuli Khola and through scrub to Dhunche at 1965m.

Day Ten

7: 00 am Return to Dhunche with a gentle climb down through oak, fir and rhododendron forests. The bird species seen here include, crested serpent, Black and Bonelli’s Eagles, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, Striated Bull Collard Owlet and Golden-throated Barbet.

Day Fourteen

7: 00 am Half day’s excursion inside the Royal Chitwan National Park on a jungle safari, exploring pristine habitats including riverine forests and grasslands with some amazing bird watching spots. Bird species likely to be seen include Greater and Oriental Pied Hornbill, various species of Minivets, Flycatchers, Warblers, Prinias, Chats, Babblers and Woodpeckers.

2: 30 pm Elephant safari in the jungle searching for some of the larger mammals including the greater one-horned rhino and the Royal Bengal tiger as well as others

Day Fifteen

7: 00 am Half day’s trip to Bishajarital by four wheel drive, the lake is surrounded by a corridor forest of the Royal Chitwan National Park and is listed as a RAMSAR site. The lake is famous for bird watching and game viewing
1: 00 pm Lunch break  
2: 30 pm Canoeing trip down to the Elephant Breeding Center to play with baby elephants.
6: 30 pm Dinner followed by a traditional dance performed by the indigenous Tharu people.
