Bird Watching Trip-Treking-Langtang National Park-Bhaktapur Sightseeing

This 14 night 15 day bird watching tour takes you to the Langtang area of the Himalaya, close to the Tibetan border where the scenery in the upper valley is extraordinary. The dominant local vegetation includes the juniper and rhododendron scrub, blue pine forest and cushion plants in the alpine pastures. The trek is centered around the Langtang National Park, famous for the high alpine bird species such as Ibisbill as well as different species of Pheasants, Tits, Bush Robins, Minlas, Flycatchers, Warblers, Pigeons, Accentors and Rose finches.  Following the trek there will be sightseeing in Bhaktapur, a center of culture and famous for it' s traditional Nepalese architecture.
     
Day One Meet at the airport, transfer to Hotel

1: 00 pm Lunch, refresh and rest at the Hotel.  
6: 00 pm Introduction to Nepal and review of trip itinerary   
7: 00 pm Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.  
     
Day Two    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am  10 Hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche  
1: 00 pm Lunch on the way  
6: 00 pm Check in lodge at Dhunche, refresh, dinner and overnight stay  
     
Day Three    
6: 00 am  Breakfast  
7: 00 am Start of trek, the trail starts to the East of Dhunche, it then steeply climbs through forest before reaching Bharku at 1845m. In Bharku there is a forest which is a bird watching hotspot, from here the path ascends through more forests to the top of the ridge at 2300m, we then descend into Syabru. Bird species likely to be seen include Mountain Hawk Eagle, Black and Bonelli' s Eagles, Collard Owlet, Kalij Pheasant, Speckled Wood Pigeons and several species of Wabblers, Tits, Fulvetta, Bush Robins and Flycatchers

Day Four    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am  From Syabru we walk through the forests above the village, which is a good bird watching area, before descending through the village to a stream. The trail continues upstream through moist deciduous forest followed by a crossing of the river to the North, following it to Chongdong at 2380m. The same bird species as yesterday will be seen, such as several species of Flycatcher, Warblers, Minla, Eagles and a variety of Thrushes.

Day Five

7: 00 am    Today the trek continues through forest along the Northern side of the Langtang Khola, before climbing steeply up to Ghore Tabela at 2880m. The vegetation along this stretch of the trail changes from moist deciduous forest into mature coniferous and scrub, the species of birds likely to be seen include Himalayan Griffon, Golden Eagle, Himalayan Monal as well as various species of Robins, Flycatchers, Thrushes, Rose Finches, Grosbeak, Tits and Warblers.

Day Six

7: 00 am  Today' s trekking begins with a climb up the valley, passing through several settlements on up to Langtang and the National Park headquarters at 3305m. Bird species likely to be seen in this area include Mrs Gould' s Sunbird, Green Shrike Babbler, Pink-Browed Rosefinch and Rufous-Tailed Flycatcher as well as several species of Minlas, Fulvettas, Yuhinas and Warblers

Day Seven

7: 00 am  The trail continues on up the Valley, climbing gradually through fields and across several moraines to the alpine pastures, and Kyanjin Gompa at 3750m. Today' s highlight is the panoramic view of the Langtang Valley, some of the birds that can be seen today include Ibis Bill, Snow Partridge, Tibetan Snowcock, Himalayan Snowcock, Blood Pheasant and Himalayan Monal as well as several species of Flycatchers, Yuhinas, Fulvettas, Tits, Warblers and Laughing Thrushes.

Day Eight

7: 00 am Day trip climbing up to a ridge to the North of Kyanjin Gompa, and on to Yala hill, this day' s hike is a great opportunity to see high altitude bird species such as Tibetan Snowcock, Grandala, Red-Billed and Yellow-Billed Chough as well as Altai and Alpine Accentors.
