Bird watching Tour-Everest Region-Safari-Royal Chitwan National Park-Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve-Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

This 17 night 18 day trip offers you the chance to visit the Khumbu region and to see the high alpine and Himalayan birds of the Mt Everest region. In addition you will visit the sub-tropical lowlands of the Royal Chitwan National Park and the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, also visiting the cultural hub of Nepal in the Katmandu Valley.

Day Two

Fly to Lukla to trek starting point. Climbing down to Phakding at 2600m, through oak and rhododendron forests you will see Kalij Pheasant, Black- throated Parrotbill, Grey- bellied Tesias, Asian sooty, Asian brown, Snowy-browed Flycatchers, Red-tailed Minlas, Black-browed and Yellow-browed Tits.

Day Three  
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am This days trekking takes you across the river and gently up and down through forest and settlements to Benker. Cross the river again and climb to Chomoa from where it is short distance to Jorsale and a steady climb up to Namche Bazaar at 3440m. Along the way can be seen Golden Eagle, Lammerrgeier, Himalayan griffon Vulture and Northern Goshok.

Day Four    
6: 30 pm Breakfast  
7: 00 pm A full day’s excursion around Thyangboche monastery will take you descending through forests to Pungo Tango and across the Dudh Kosi river. On the way back to Namche from Trashinga walking through blue pine and rhododendron forests you will see Blood Pheasant and Himalayan Monal, Snow-Partridge, Grandala and White-tailed Robin.

Day Five  
6: 30 am Breakfast
7: 00 am Walk up to Tengboche at 3867m via Phunki Thanka, this is slightly longer route with a steep ascent. It offers a brilliant view of Mount Ama Dablam, Everest and other peaks, as well as Himalayan birds such as Blood Pheasant, Himalayan Monal, Golden Eagle and White-tailed Ruby-throat.

Day Six

7: 00 am A gradual walk down to Namche Bazaar through forest and villages with impressive mountain scenery as well as sights of some Himalayan birds.

5: 30 pm Overnight at hotel in Namche Buzzer  
5: 30 pm Dinner at hotel  
     
Day Seven    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am Return to Lukla, a slow day gently walking through oak, pine and rhododendron forests and settlements taking in the fantastic Himalayan scenery and sights of Himalayan birds.

Day Eight  
6:30am Fly back to Kathmandu
8:00am Check in hotel, breakfast and then sightseeing around the Kathmandu Valley
     

Day Nine

7:30 am Drive to Royal Chitwan National Park the Land of Rhino
1:00 pm Refresh Lunch and Rest at the Hotel
3:00 pm Trip to the visitor information center and a short bird watching excursion.
5:30 pm Refresh tea and coffee watching the beautiful sunset on the river bank.  
6:30 pm Slide presentation on birds and wildlife of Royal Chitwan National Park.
8:00 pm Dinner at the Hotel  
     
Day Ten    
6.30 am Breakfast at the Hotel  
7.00 am A full day exploring on foot and bird watching inside the Royal Chitwan National Park. There are three different types of habitat, Grasslands, well preserved Riverine forest and the moist deciduous forest, which grows along the water courses of the gravel bank. The bird watching will be fantastic with sightings of the Great and Pied Hornbill, Greater Himalayan and Black rumped Flam Back, Scarlet and Small Minivet, Chestnut-bellied and Velvet Fronted Nuthatch, Rose-ringed Alexandrine, Red-breasted and Plum-headed Parakeet, Chestnut-capped Striped Tit, Striated Slender-billed Babbler, Jorden Babbler, Lesser Adjutant, Grey-crowned Prinia, White-browed and White-throated Fantail, several Indian pea-Fowl, species of Flycatchers, Bush and leaf Warblers, Eagles, Falcons and Quills. The lunch will be at the hot spot. Not only birds but mammals such as Rhino, Deer and Monkeys can be seen
5:30 pm Refresh at the Hotel tea and coffee, sunset viewing at the river bank and trip evaluation.

Day Eleven  
6:30 am Breakfast at the Hotel
7:00 am Another full day bird watching in a four-wheel drive covering all three types of habitat and ox-bow lakes where the watch tower adds a very exciting opportunity of seeing more species of birds like the Wood Peckers, Parakeets, Pigeons, Cuckoo Shrikes, Magpies, Babblers, Prinias, Storks, Flycatchers, Eagles, Warblers and Starlings. We also visit the rare Crocodile Breeding Farm. There are also many great chances of seeing large mammals Rhino, Deer, Sloth Bears, Gaurs and if you are lucky the tiger may surprise you by his sudden appearance. Lunch will be at the watch tower in the hot spot.
5:30 pm Refresh tea and coffee at the Hotel trip evaluation and sun set viewing at the river bank.

Day Twelve

 

6:30 am Break fast at the Hotel  
7:00 am Drive to the Twenty thousand lakes by four-wheel drive. We will then have four hours to walk through the many several species forest and see water birds such as Storks, Herons, Egrets and of course the forest birds such as Magpies, Grey headed fish Eagles, Brown fish Owls, Greater Himalayan and Black rumped Flamback, Crested serpent Eagle, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, Warblers, Parakeets etc. The lake is surrounded by well preserved sal forest and the area is a very famous corridor forest of the Royal Chitwan National Park. The lake has recently been listed as a RAMSAR site by the Wetland international Convention for its significant importance to the wildlife in Nepal.
12:00 Noon Lunch at the Hotel and Rest.  
2: 30 pm A 1-1/2hrs elephant back safari. The elephant driver will show you animals such as Rhino, Deer, Wild Boar and you could search for the TIGER and it is possible to see some birds as well. This trip will give you an unforgettable life time experience riding on one of the biggest animals on earth.
4: 00 pm Trip to an Elephant Breeding Center where you can see lovely baby Elephants
5:30 pm Refresh tea and coffee at the Hotel and trip evaluation.  
7:30 pm Dinner and dancing at the Hotel. The dance is performance by the malaria resistant indigenous Tharu people, the dominant ethnic group of the Chitwan Valley. Don’t hesitate to join them for the final dance!
     
Day Thirteen  
6:30 am Breakfast at the Hotel  
8: 00 am Drive to the Kosi Tappu Wildlife Reserve the largest RAMSAR Site in Nepal and a bird watchers paradise. This trip takes seven hours, The reserve is located 350 km to the East of Chitwan in the sub-tropical Terai low lands of Nepal.
1:00 pm Lunch will be on the way to the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.
4:00 pm Refresh tea and coffee at the Tented Camp, Rest period.
5:00 pm Birding around the Tented Camp.
7:00 pm Dinner at the Tented Camp.
   
Day Fourteen  
6:30 am Breakfast at the Tented Camp.  
7:00 am Drive to Kosi Barrage for a full day’s trip. The Barrage is a staging point for migrant birds and it is of international importance for migrating wildfowl and waders. The Barrage holds rich varieties of marshland birds and is also famous for several species of Eagles, Falcons, Owls and Harriers as well as Bush Warblers, Bengle Florican, Indian Cursor, Hodson's bush Chat and Graceful Prinia. From the barrage’s Eastern and Western embankments we can see flocks of Wildfowl, Little Pratincole, Indian Skimmers and Waders. Including various species of Gulls, Terns, Snips, Ducks and Jacanas. Lunch will be taken at this hot spot.
5:30 pm Refresh, tea and coffee at the Tented Camp followed by a trip evaluation.
7:00 pm Dinner at the Tented Camp.
   

Day Fifteen

6:30 am Break fast at the Tented Camp
7:00 am A full day’s hike on the high embankment, which forms the eastern boundary of the Reserve, it is covered mainly by types of Grassland, Marshland, Scrub as well as degraded Riverine forest. The bird species most likely to be seen include Yellow-Legged button Quill, Swamp Francolin, Striated grass Bird, Water cock, Brown hawk Owl, Palla's fish Eagle, Pallied, Marsh, Pied and Montague's Harriers, Rufous-bellied Eagle, Indian grey Hornbill, White tailed stone Chat, Yellow bellied Prinia, Black throated Weaver, Red Avadavat, Black faced Bunting as well as Various species of Storks, Ibis, Terns, Vultures, Ducks, Owls and Babblers.
5:30 pm Refreshment tea and coffee at the Tented Camp followed by trip evaluation.
7:00 pm Dinner at the Tented Camp.  
     
Day Sixteen  
6:30 am Breakfast at the Tented Camp.  
7:00 am Short bird watching walk around the Tented Camp  
9:00 am One hour by bus to the Biratnagar local airport and 30 minute flight to Kathmandu.
12:30 pm Refresh and lunch at the Hotel  
2:30 pm Sightseeing in the Katmandu Valley to some of the World Heritage Sites.
8:30 pm Dinner at the Hotel.
   
Day Seventeen
8: 00 am Breakfast followed by leisure time

7: 00 pm Dinner with a special Nepali culture program, overall trip evaluation
