Bird Watching Tour-Royal Birdia National Park-Royal Sukla Phanta Wild Reserver-Lumbini-Royal Chitwan National Park-Phulchowki Hill Forest

This 16 night 17 day trip offers a memorable bird watching experience seeing at least 375 species of Nepal’s Himalayan birds and tropical lowland birds in the Royal Chitwan National Park, Royal Bardia National Park, Royal Sukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve and the Phulchowki Forest.
   
Day One

Day Two    
8: 00 am Breakfast  
9: 00 am Fly to the Royal Bardia National Park, the largest lowland reserve and well known for its protection of the endangered wildlife and globally threatened bird species. It is also the last remaining habitat of the endangered Black Buck in Nepal.

Day Three    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am A full day jungle walking through the different bird habitats, sal-forest, riverine forest and grassland. This is a fantastic area for bird watching where you will see several birds that are only found in the west Nepal like the Grey Hornbill, Brown Headed Barbet, India Robin, Brown-Capped Pigmy-Woodpecker, various species of Flycatchers, Warblers, Prinias and Raptors.

Day Four  
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am A full day in a four wheel drive exploring the prime habitats of the wildlife. There are good opportunities of observing the wild Asian elephant, Royal Bengal tiger and the Greater Pied-Hornbill, Silver Eared Mesia birds
1: 00 pm Lunch break
5: 30 pm Sunset views from the river bank
6: 30 pm Dinner with dancing performed by local people
   
Day Five

7: 00 am Three hour drive to the Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve lying to the West of Nepal close to the Indian border. The reserve is the last strong-hold of the Swamp deer in Asia and is famous for the grassland inhabiting birds of Nepal.

2: 30 pm A short bird watching tour around the Reserve’s Head Office area.

Day Six    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am A full day bird watching on foot exploring the various habitation, Sal forest, grassland and Phanta. This area is excellent for observing birds and game particularly grassland birds like the Finn’s Baya, Bengal Florican, Swamp Francolin, Tawny Bellied Babbler, Hodson’s Bush Chat, Great Slaty Woodpecker, White-Napped Woodpecker, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Bright-Headed Cisticola and Grey Francolin Harriers. Globally threatened species of vultures are commonly seen here such as White-rumped and Slender-billed vulture.

Day Seven

7: 00 am Another full day driving and exploring the area. There are many opportunities to observe the mammals and birds including the Asian wild elephant, elusive Royal Bengal tiger, Swamp Deer, Spotted Deer, and varieties of bird including Vultures, Eagles, Prininas, Chats, Babblers, Quills, Francolins and Buntings during the trip.

Day Eight

7: 00 am Eight hour drive to Lumbini, the birth place of Buddha and land of the Sarus Crane, the tallest flying birds in the World. This is a World Heritage Site and a place for Buddhist pilgrimages.

Day Nine  
6: 30 am Breakfast at hotel  
7: 00 am A full day bird watching in the Crane Sanctuary and the Lumbini forests to see Sarus Crane, Large Grey-Babbler, Barn Owls, Grey Hornbills and different species of Prinias and Babblers as well as Blue Bulls and Monkeys. You can also visit the religious site.

Day Ten

7: 00 am Three hour drive to the Royal Chitwan National Park, the land of the Rhino and a Bird Watchers paradise.

Day Eleven    
6: 30 am Breakfast  
7: 00 am A full day’s excursion through bird’s prime habitats, grassland and riverine forests with excellent opportunities to see various species of Woodpeckers, Drongos, Babblers, Warblers, Parakeet and Wood Shrikes.

Day Twelve

7: 00 am Drive to Bishajarital in a four wheel drive. This is listed as a RAMSAR Site in the Wetland International Convention and is in the corridor forest of the Royal Chitwan National Park and the lake is famous for its birds and game. The birds here include several species Parakeets, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, Warblers, Wood Shrike, Oriental Darter, Grey Headed Fish Eagle and there are also Greater one-horned rhino, Monkeys and Deer
1: 00 pm Lunch at hotel  
2: 30 pm Elephant back safari riding deep into the jungle in search of the Greater one-horned Rhino and the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger and of course the birds.
5: 30 pm Sunset views from the river with drinks.  
6: 30 pm Dinner with traditional dancing performed by the local indigenous Tharu people.
   
Day Thirteen  
6: 30 am Breakfast at hotel
7: 00 am We take a canoe trip down the river with beautiful scenery and many chances to see crocodiles and then on to the elephant breeding center to play with lovely baby elephants.
10: 00 am Back to hotel  
10: 30 am Five hour drive back to Katmandu.

Day Fourteen

7: 00 am Drive to Phulchoki the bird’s garden. The Phulchoki forest is the highest peak in the rim of the Katmandu Valley; the higher part is extremely good for high land birds like the Laughing Thrush, Warblers, Flycatchers, Niltavas, Sunbirds, Red Starts, Fulvettas and Babblers.
