Long Bird Watching Tour-Everest Base Camp Trek-Wildlife Safari-Royal Chitwan National Park.

This 24 night 25 day bird watching trip is a great chance to observe both tropical lowland birds and high altitude birds, the trek provides spectacular mountain scenery and is a fascinating insight into the culture of the Sherpa people, including a visit to the Everest base camp. This package also takes you to the Royal Chitwan National Park, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the park offers excellent bird watching and wildlife experiences.

The trek begins with an undulating route through Sherpa settlements as well as oak and rhododendron forests, to Shivalaya at 1800m, from Shivalaya there is a further climb to Sangbadanda at 2150m and to Kosaribas at 2500m, before a final ascent to bhanjyang, a pass at 2705m. The bird species found in the area include Thrushes, Kalij Pheasant, Black Birds and Forktails.

The trail descends to Likhu khola where we cross the river at 1580m, walking along it to Kanji before a long steep climb up to Lemur Pass to reach Sete. The villages along this route are inhabited almost exclusively by Sherpa people and the area is surrounded by beautiful oak and rhododendron forests. Some of the birds that you may see include various species of Flycatchers, Thrushes, Niltavas, and Finches.

Today the trek starts with a long but slow climb up to Lamjura Pass at 3530m, with frost and often snow along this part of the trail in winter or flowering rhododendrons in the spring, and Goyem at 3300m, the pass is the highest point between Jiri and Namche before it descends to Tragdobuk at 2860m and the attractive Sherpa village of Junbesi at 2675m. Bird species in this area include Lammergeier, Indian Blue Robin, Laughing Thrushes and Rock Thrushes.

The day begins with an ascent to a ridge at 3080m, from here you will have your first sight of Mount Everest, from this ridge we descend to Nuntala. Bird species include Flowerpeckers, Rose Finches, Bullfinches as well as Rock and Laughing thrushes.

We descend to the Dudh kosi at 1500m which we cross and follow to Jubing (Dorakbuk) at 1680m, from here we climb over a ridge to Khari khola at 2070m, before climbing straight up the hill to Bupsa at 2300m. The surrounding rhododendron forests are excellent for birds like Indian Blue robin, Little Cuckoo, Forktails, Red-billed Chough, Red-tailed Minla and Hoary Barwing.

The day begins with a slow ascent to a ridge at 2900m, there are some amazing views of the Dudh Kosi overlooking Puiyan, from here we climb down to Puiyan at 2730m and down inside the canyon of the Dudh kosi Valley. From here we make an ascent to a ridge at 2800m before dropping down to Surkhe (Buwa) at 2293m, ascending slowly through Mushe and Chaunrikarka at 2680m to Cabling. We then descend along the side of the Dudh Kosi to Ghat at 2550m. Some of the bird species in this area include Scarlet Finches, Brown and Red-Headed Bullfinches as well as Chestnut and Grey- Bellied Tesias

Day Nine

Climb past Ghat’s Gompa and a large collection of Mini (stones carved with a particular Buddhist mantra), we then trek along the river to Phakding from where we cross the river and follow it to Benkar at 2700m. After a short climb up to the Sagarmatha National Park entrance station, we take a steady walk up to Namche bazaar at 3440m. Bird species in the area include Himalayan Griffon, Lammergeier, Northern Goshawks, as well as various species of Flycatchers, Minla and Yellow Bellied Flowerpeckers.

Day walk exploring through the fields above Namche Bazaar, which itself is a fascinating village, there are various excursions to Khumjung at 3780m and Khunde at 3840m. We will visit the Sagarmatha National Park Museum in Solukhumbu which is the main centre of the region.

Day Eleven

Today we continue on a slightly longer route from Namche, climbing up to the Shyangboche airstrip at 3720m. From here the trail descends to the Dudh Kosi at 3250m, this is followed by a steep climb through forest to Tengpoche at 3870m, from where you have some fantastic views of Ama Dablam, Everest amongst others. The birds in the area include Blood Pheasant, Himalayan Monal and others.

The trail continues with a really steep climb, first up and then down to Devuche, from where we cross the Imja Khola to a beautiful village, this is followed by a climb up Pheriche at 4240m. Birds that can be seen are Blood Pheasant, Himalayan Monal, Pacific Swift and Rosy Pipit.

Today we begin the trek by climbing up to Phalang Karpo at 4620m and along to Duglha at 4620m, before reaching Lobuje at 4930m. Birds that may be observed include Robin and Alpine Accentors and White-Tailed Ruby Throat and many more.

Half day’s excursion inside the Royal Chitwan National Park on a jungle safari, exploring pristine habitats including riverine forests and grasslands with some amazing bird watching spots. Bird species likely to be seen include Greater and Oriental Pied Hornbill, various species of Minivets, Flycatchers, Warblers, Prinias, Chats, Babblers and Woodpeckers

Half day’s trip to Bishajarital by four wheel drive, the lake is surrounded by a corridor forest of the Royal Chitwan National Park and is listed as a RAMSAR site. The lake is famous for bird watching and game viewing.
